So idyllic is St. John that nearly a third of the island and much of its coral reef is preserved as a national park. Nowhere are the beaches more peaceful or protected. Here you can snorkel on a self-guided trail so valuable in plant and marine life it is preserved as an underwater national park; stroll on a beach that's pure visual poetry or shop for tantan necklaces in the lazy little town of Cruz Bay.
